Help & Comfort in Suffering

“For the despairing man there should be
kindness from his friend;
Lest he forsake the fear of the Almighty.”
Job 6:14

I’ve collected these posts in the hope you will find in them some help and comfort in the midst of your suffering. I wrote them over a span of many months, and they include music, prayer and poetry. There is Christmas and Easter music here, and while that may seem unusual, I have found comfort and hope many times in their lyrics and melodies. In the variety offered I pray you will find words that bring you consolation. There are links to Bible passages within the posts for you to click on and read

You might start by reading about my own Journey Through The Storm of the last few years, and then about the sure and certain Anchor of Hope. I will also be adding to these lists from time to time, so check back in to see if there’s something new you haven’t yet read.

After writing on Job 1–26 (links at “My servant Job”) I wrote Suffering & Lovingkindness to answer the question, “How do you show lovingkindness to someone in despair?”

May the Lord be with you, comfort you and strengthen you.

Lamentations: Desolation & Hope

My soul has been rejected from peace;
I have forgotten happiness.
So I say, “My strength has perished,
And so has my hope from the LORD.”
Remember my affliction and my wandering,
the wormwood and bitterness.
Surely my soul remembers
And is bowed down within me.

This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.
The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I have hope in Him.”

The LORD is good to those who wait for Him,
To the person who seeks Him.
Lamentations 3:17–26
